How do I place an order?

Choose the cross style you'd like in our shop, select your customisation options as you go, and add it to your basket. Once you check out we'll send a confirmation and then start work on your digital proof. There's no rush — we're happy to talk you through any of the choices by email or phone first.

Question 2

What information do you need from me?

Accepted Answer

The loved one's name as you'd like it engraved, the dates or short inscription you want to include, and any design choices (font, halo style, cross section, optional band or gold font). If you'd like a personalised description on the cross, you can include up to 100 characters. We'll always check spelling and spacing with you on the proof before we begin.

Question 3

How long until I receive a proof?

Accepted Answer

We aim to send your digital proof by email within a few working days of your order. The proof shows exactly how the lettering, halo and design will look on the finished cross. Nothing is cut or carved until you've replied to say you're happy.

Question 4

Can I make changes after I've approved the proof?

Accepted Answer

Once a proof is approved we begin handcrafting your cross, so any changes after that point can be difficult — sometimes impossible. If you spot something on the proof you'd like to revisit, just reply and we'll send a fresh version. Take all the time you need at proof stage; that's exactly what it's for.

Can I see a sample of the wood or finish first?

We don't currently send physical samples, but we're happy to share extra photos of finished crosses, our oak grain and the different halo styles so you can see them in real light. Just drop us a message with what you'd like to see and we'll send some over.

Question 6

Which crosses can be fully customised?

Accepted Answer

Our Classic Oak crosses can be customised across the full range of options — font, halo design, coloured or gold band, cross section style and primary imagery. Our Premium crosses currently offer the font selector. If you're after a particular combination, send us a quick note and we'll let you know what's possible.

Question 7

What's the difference between Style 1 and Style 2 cross sections?

These refer to the profile of the cross arms — the way the timber is shaped where the upright meets the crossbar. Style 1 has a more traditional square-shouldered profile, Style 2 has a softer, sculpted edge. Both are cut from the same 100% sustainable oak; it really comes down to which silhouette you prefer.

What's a halo, and what does the coloured band do?

The halo is the circular detail that sits at the meeting of the cross arms — we offer Standard, Celtic, Waves and Swirls. The coloured band is an inlay around the halo that adds a touch of colour: a standard Band is £40 and a Gold Band is £60. It's a small detail that lifts the whole piece.

What's the gold font upgrade?

Accepted Answer

By default the lettering is finished in black. The gold font option replaces that with a warm gold tone, which can feel especially fitting against the oak. You'll see it clearly on your proof before we start cutting.

Question 10

Can I add a photo, QR code, or regimental crest?

Accepted Answer

We don't currently offer integrated photos or QR codes on the cross itself. If you'd like a custom symbol, religious icon or regimental crest, get in touch before ordering — we can often work it into the design, but we'd like to confirm what's possible for your particular piece first.

Can I request a special typeface that isn’t in your list?

Accepted Answer

Yes — there's an option to request a special typeface when you order. Send through a sample or the font name and we'll do our best to match it on the proof. If we can't reproduce it cleanly in carved oak we'll suggest the closest alternative.

Question 12

Do you offer free delivery?

Accepted Answer

Yes — UK delivery is free on every cross. Your proof email will include a firm dispatch date once we've started work, so you'll know exactly when to expect it.

Question 13

How long from approval to dispatch?

Accepted Answer

Lead times vary a little depending on the design and how busy the workshop is, so rather than quote a number that might shift, we'll always give you a firm dispatch date in the proof email. If you have a specific date you're working towards — an anniversary, a service — please tell us when you order and we'll do our best to fit around it.

Do you ship outside the UK?

We do ship internationally on request — please contact us before ordering so we can confirm shipping costs and timescales for your country. Any import duties, taxes or customs fees on international orders are the recipient's responsibility, so it's worth checking your local rates before you order.

Question 15

What if my cross arrives damaged?

Please take a few photos before unwrapping any further and email them to us within 48 hours of delivery. We package every cross carefully, but if something has happened in transit we'll sort it out — usually by making a replacement at no cost to you.

Question 16

How do I install the cross?

Accepted Answer

Most people install the cross by digging a hole roughly 40–50cm deep, settling the upright in level, and backfilling — a bag of post-mix concrete sets it firmly for the long term. Do you offer an installation service?

Accepted Answer

We don't currently install crosses on site ourselves. If you'd prefer help, we can usually recommend a funeral director or memorial mason in your area who'll be glad to install it for you. Just let us know roughly where you are and we'll point you in the right direction.

Question 18

How do I clean and re-treat the cross after a year?

Accepted Answer

Each cross leaves us with a weatherproof coating, but oak benefits from a top-up after roughly a year outdoors. Wipe it down gently with a soft, damp cloth, let it dry, then apply a thin coat of clear UV satin varnish following the tin's instructions. That keeps the colour and grain looking their best.

Question 19

The cross feels loose in the ground — what should I do?

Accepted Answer

A small amount of movement after heavy rain is normal in the first few months. If it's noticeably loose, ease it out, top up the hole with fresh post-mix or compacted soil, and re-level. If you'd like a hand thinking it through, send us a photo and we'll talk you through next steps.

Question 20

The wood is looking weathered after a few years — can it be restored?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we offer a refurbishment service. Get in touch with a few photos and rough measurements and we'll come back with options, costs and a timescale. Oak weathers beautifully, so often a gentle refurb is all it needs to look like new.

Question 21

What does the one-year guarantee cover?

Accepted Answer

Every cross is covered for one year against manufacturing faults. Natural weathering and the small movements oak makes with the seasons aren't faults — they're part of its character — and those are addressed with the yearly re-treat described above. If you spot anything you're worried about, send us a photo and we'll take a look.

Question 22

What if there's a typo on the finished cross?

Accepted Answer

If the mistake is on our side — different from what was on the approved proof — we'll remake the cross free of charge. If a typo slipped through on the approved proof, the cost of a remake is the customer's. That's why we ask everyone to read the proof carefully and out loud before approving; we'd much rather catch it then than after it's carved.

Question 23

Can I return or cancel a bespoke order?

Accepted Answer

Because every cross is handcrafted to order, we aren't able to accept returns once work has begun. If you need to cancel, please get in touch as soon as possible — if we haven't started the proof yet we can usually refund in full, and if we have, we'll do everything we can to find a fair outcome.
