Last week, the Taylor Craft Productions team made the journey to the National Funeral Exhibition, and we're still buzzing about it. Held every two years and organised by the National Association of Funeral Directors, NFE has earned its reputation as the UK's largest trade show for the profession, and one of the top three events of its kind anywhere in the world. With more than 4,500 attendees from 19+ countries and over 200 exhibitors under one roof, it's hard to find a better snapshot of where our industry is heading.
We arrived on the Thursday, the opening day of the three-day show, and the warmth of the welcome set the tone immediately. From the moment we stepped onto the exhibition floor, we were struck by just how friendly everyone was: exhibitors, organisers, and fellow attendees, all generous with their time, their stories, and their introductions. It's easy to forget, in a sector built around such sensitive work, just how much genuine community exists behind the scenes. NFE was a great reminder of why face-to-face events still matter so much; nothing replaces a proper conversation and a handshake.
Among the many great conversations we had, a couple stood out. We spent time with the team at Teleshore Group, leading suppliers to the bereavement industry, whose work spans everything from memorial repair and exhumations to mausoleum interment and grave construction: the kind of behind-the-scenes expertise that keeps the whole profession running smoothly. We also caught up with SAIF, the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, who have spent over three decades championing independent, family-owned funeral directors and protecting the families they serve. Both conversations were a great reminder of the strength and depth of the network we're proud to be part of.
What really caught our eye, though, was the innovation on display. Loop Biotech's Living Cocoon deserves a special mention: the world's first coffin grown from mushrooms and upcycled hemp fibres, fully biodegradable within 45 days, and certified for natural burial, traditional burial, and cremation alike. Seeing a product that genuinely rethinks what a coffin can be, built entirely from nature and designed to give back to it, was a brilliant reminder that this industry has no shortage of people pushing boundaries and reimagining tradition for the better.
Events like NFE aren't just about catching up on industry trends; they're about people. They're a chance to put faces to names, strengthen partnerships that matter, and spot the next big idea before it goes mainstream. Walking the floor on that Thursday, we felt that energy everywhere we turned.
Now that we're back, we're genuinely excited: excited to reconnect with the familiar faces we caught up with, and just as excited to follow up with the new connections we made. If you met us at NFE, or simply want to find out more about what we do at Taylor Craft Productions, we'd love to get something in the diary. Let's keep the conversation going.
